Aviya McGuire was the 2013-14 Junior Fellow for CCLP. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, magna cum laude, with a BA in Rhetoric and Peace & Conflict Studies. Before joining CCLP, she interned in Washington, D.C. at the Brookings Institution, with the Project on Internal Displacement, and volunteered as a researcher for the UC Hastings Center for Gender and Refugee Studies.
As Junior Fellow, Aviya assisted the Center with research, social media, web development and blog writing. In addition to working for CCLP, she assisted in event planning and research for the Annenberg Retreat at Sunnylands.
During her time at Cal, Aviya was a member of Berkeley Model United Nations and Theater for Charity, as well as a DJ for KALX, Berkeley’s college and community radio. She was a research assistant to Professor Ananya Roy in her work on Territories of Poverty as well as a teaching assistant to Professor Jerry Sanders for his core class on Peace Theory.
Aviya currently resides in the Bay area and enjoys reading, eating and laughing in her spare time.
