Last week, with support from CCLP and Professor Geoffrey Cowan, a team of USC Annenberg students went to our nation’s capital for the inauguration of the 45th President and the Women’s March.
The group of six students, led by professor Robert Hernandez, partnered with The New York Times Daily 360 team to produce 360 video of the inauguration ceremony which was featured on the Times homepage.
The group also partnered with NPR to produce the first and second 360 news videos the organization has ever published. The videos, which feature footage shot and the inauguration, various protests and the Women’s March, garnered more than 100 thousand views on Facebook in the first four days after they were posted.
Using CCLP’s Washington D.C. office as a workspace, the students were right in the midst of inauguration weekend events.
Senior Sarah Collins, a CCLP researcher and Cowan Scholar, was able to Skype into the inauguration viewing hosted by CCLP at USC and provided insight into the mood of the crowd before and after the swearing in.
Though challenging at times, Collins said the overall experience of covering the inauguration and Women’s March was exhilarating and the opportunity to work with outlets like The New York Times and NPR was a “dream come true.”
