Although the world of journalism has faced sweeping changes in the last couple decades, Cindi Leive’s career embodies an unwavering cornerstone: advocacy for women. For instance, in her 16 years at Glamour where she served as Editor in Chief, she not only fostered readership growth by the millions, but also boosted the publication’s social impact with initiatives like the Women of the Year Awards and The Girl Project. Today, Leive is spearheading The Meteor, where feminism shines at the forefront.

The Meteor is an organization composed of journalists, artists, and activists committed to a shared goal of gender equity. It boasts a diverse collective whose creative power spans cinema, radio, social media, podcasts, literature, photography, painting, theater, organized marches, and much, much more.

Although The Meteor has not officially launched, its achievements are already worthy of celebration. Projects include a podcast on today’s most pressing issues surrounding gender, race, and ability; an Audible original series exploring the lives of Black women in America; and a virtual gathering that sparked visionary conversations around empowerment. Through all of the organization’s endeavors, intersectionality is upheld as the key to meaningful activism.

Over the summer, Cowan Scholar Chantal Marauta began supporting The Meteor through CCLP and was promoted independently to Social Media Coordinator; a role she is carrying part-time into the fall semester. “In collaboration with a fantastic design team, my colleagues and I create timely posts that do everything from celebrating a notable anniversary, to elevating important news and voices from around the world, to bringing historical facts to light in an engaging way,” explains Marauta.

CCLP is proud to support The Meteor and looks forward to celebrating its official launch in the near future.
