On July 10, 2012 at 9 PT/Noon ET USC Annenberg’s Center on Communication Leadership & Policy, in partnership with the American University School of Communication presents the third installment of Public Media Futures Forum at the University of Washington. The third installment of Public Media Future’s focuses in on the question: “What are the revenue development opportunities of the next decade?”
The previous forums successfully focused on innovations in public media business models featuring the industry’s leading public media executives. For a previous account of the forum, click here.
Virtual participants are encouraged to tune in and interact with the new installment by watching a live streaming interactive forum featured on the University of Washington’s Master of Communication in Digital Media (MCDM) livestream account.
To prepare for the forum, 15 public broadcasting executives were interviewed and 27 other station/professional leaders were surveyed who will be speaking at the Development Conference. Based on their comments three prospective areas were drawn to attention:
• Continued expansion of “philanthropic revenue,” which many of our survey respondents identified as the top priority;
• Shifting membership programs from static annual gifts to “sustainer” programs, using automatic monthly donations drawn from credit cards or checking accounts, and
• Rethinking of the basic station business underwriting programs, so all the stations in a market would offer businesses access to the collective public radio (or radio and TV) audience.
