The USC Annenberg Center on Communication Leadership & Policy (CCLP) is pleased to welcome Jonathan Aronson as its newest faculty fellow.
Aronson is a professor at USC Annenberg and the Department of Political Science & International Relations at USC Dornsife. He received his training at Harvard and Stanford before joining USC’s School of International Relations in 1976. Aronson was the director of the School of International Relations, and Annenberg Center for Communication, president of the Association Professional School of International Affairs (APSIA), and served on the Social Science Research Council’s board of directors. He currently is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
His first three books explored international banking and global energy politics, before turning to the study of trade negotiations, trade in services, and international communication. One of his books (with Peter Cowhey) provided a framework that influenced the restructuring of global communications, led to the sharp decline in international calling rates, and helped the Internet’s expansion.
His current research considers how privacy, equity, standard setting, competition policy, and international intellectual property affect globalization through communication.
Aronson continues to work on a short manuscript tentatively titled, The Good Banker that is meant to remind bankers and the public that financial institutions can and should contribute to society. He also collects art and closely follows the economics of contemporary art markets in the digital age.
