David Dreier, a CCLP Advisory Board Member, recently honored U.S. governors Spencer Cox and Jared Polis with Civility Awards at The Dreier RoundTable (DRt) in Claremont McKenna College. Launched by Dreier, the award honors public servants who engage in conversations with a polarizing clash of ideas while understanding that their political opponent is not their enemy.
“The leadership that you and Jared are showing now has been a model for anyone who is engaged in public service,” Dreier told the audience, according to an article published by DRt.
After the award presentation, Dreier, a Republican member of Congress from 1981 to 2013, took part in a discussion on the value of civil discourse in American politics, moderated by Aditya Pai ‘13, a member of the DRt advisory board. Dreier shared how he and former Montana Governor Steve Bullock, a Democrat, had chosen to honor Cox and Polis for their clear dedication to lowering the intensity of political rhetoric in the U.S.
