Kit Rachlis is a Senior Editor at ProPublica. He previously served as a Senior Editor at California Sunday Magazine. He is the former Editor in Chief of The American Prospect , Los Angeles magazine, and the LA Weekly as well as Senior Projects Editor at the Los Angeles Times. While at the Times, he edited articles that went on to win a Pulitzer Prize and a Livingston Award, among other honors. Rachlis has served on the boards of the Association of Alternative Newspapers, PEN USA, and the American Society of Magazine Editors. His writing has appeared in several anthologies, including “The Rolling Stone Illustrated History of Rock and Roll” and “Empty Nest: 31 Parents Tell the Truth About Relationships, Love, and Freedom After the Kids Fly the Coop,” and he has edited numerous books, including the best-selling “The Color of Law” by Richard Rothstein. Raised in New York City, Rachlis earned a B.A. in American Studies from Yale University in 1975.
As a senior fellow, Rachlis helps lead a series of discussions and projects on the arts, politics and society.
